A culture trip to Powerscourt gave me the chance to explore a place outside the classroom. I visited Powerscourt House, Pepperpot Tower and the waterfall. These photographs show different parts of the trip, from the stone buildings to the trees and water.
HOUSE · TOWER · WATERFALL
Powerscourt House
Powerscourt House stands above a wide set of stone steps. In my photograph, the house is framed by trees, with clouds in the sky above it. The size of the building and the steps make this a good place to stop and look around.

Another photograph shows a lake with two white winged horse statues near the entrance. The water, trees and mountains in the distance show a different side of Powerscourt.

Pepperpot Tower
Pepperpot Tower was another stop on the trip. It is a round stone tower surrounded by trees. I took a photograph beside it, which shows the rough stone walls and the shape of the top of the tower.

Powerscourt Waterfall
At the waterfall, the view was very different from the house and gardens. Water was flowing down the rocks, and there was spray near the bottom. From further away, I could see the waterfall between the trees, with green grass and paths below it.

I also took photographs closer to the water. They show how different the same place can look depending on where you stand.

Connecting the trip with my learning
This trip gave me something concrete to describe in English. Looking back at the photographs, I can practise explaining what I saw and comparing different places. Powerscourt House and Pepperpot Tower show the built environment, while the waterfall shows the natural landscape.
For my next culture trip, I would like to take short notes as well as photographs. This could help me remember more details when I write about the experience.
